The local towns such as our Montelparo offer a full range of amenities with cafes, bank, post office, physician, drug store and two grocery shops. Should one want to venture from these private gardens of tranquility however, in addition to continuing to discover the numerous historic hilltowns in the immediate vicinity with their unique artworks and architecture, we frequently take an overnight trip to Venice, Florence, or Rome to attend special exhibitions or cultural events. Rome is about a two-hour drive (easily visited in a day), Florence is three hours on a pretty route through the mountain passes, and Venice is four-hour drive on the autostrada hugging the coastline most of the way. Perhaps most importantly, for easy excursions for upscale shopping and entertainment, Ascoli Piceno (as you probably know, an ancient roman city and provincial capital) is like the sea and mountains recreation, also a twenty-five minute drive.
